Swedish National Museums of Military History (SFHM)

SFHM is a government agency under the Ministry of Culture tasked with spreading knowledge about the Swedish defense throughout history and its role in societal development. SFHM includes the Army Museum, the Air Force Museum, the Department of Operational Support, and the Defense Tradition Committee. Army Museum

The Army Museum in central Stockholm depicts Sweden's history from the 16th century to the present, focusing on how people have lived and been affected by war and peace during different periods. About 30 people work at the museum, divided into two units. The museum has just begun an extensive renewal process, which includes the production of new permanent exhibitions. Collections Unit

The Collections Unit is responsible for the Army Museum's collections, library, and archives. The collections consist of over 100,000 objects related to military history and include one of the world's finest collections of uniforms and flags. About 15 people work in the unit, and you will be part of a team of conservators and curators.

Job Responsibilities

As a conservator, you have an important role in caring for and preserving the Army Museum's collections. The position includes standard conservator functions such as risk assessments, conservation, care plans, mounting, etc. You will also work with materials other than textiles as needed. The position also involves participating in the production and maintenance of the Armed Forces' field signs (flags).

Educational Background

A degree in conservation with a focus on textiles or knowledge and experience deemed equivalent by the employer.

Skills and Experience

You should have:

  • Experience in conservation and sewing work in a museum or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of documentation methods in the conservation field.
  • The ability to organize and plan work processes.
  • Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and/or English.

Meritorious are:

  • Experience in participating in exhibition productions.
  • Knowledge of sustainability issues.
  • Experience working in object databases, such as Primus.
  • Driver's license B or C.

You should enjoy working independently but also closely with others. You take initiative, are flexible, and have the ability to convey and share your knowledge both externally and internally.

Employment Form and Start Date

Permanent employment, full-time. We apply a 6-month probationary period.

Start date as soon as possible or by agreement.
